serenity now

i'm so jittery today, it could be the cold, the green tea or the fact that i start my new job on monday! yes, yes, you heard right drexel hired me! God is so good - "He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with shouting." Job 8:21

our pastor challenged the congregation to read through the Bible this year, I think Mary Ruth and Richard were visiting that Sunday... new years day. i know it's not super nice to drag your new years eve guest to church... but we made it and none of us fell asleep! Anyway the theme is 66 in '06, which only looks slightly satanic :P So, I thought about how to do this. I've always thought that reading through the Bible in a year, while a good idea, wasn't as good as actually understanding what you're reading and I know reading & understanding the Bible in a year wasn't a realistic goal for me.

So, I thought about this challenge and came to an unusual solution, an audio bible. Long story short I found a podcast called the Daily Audio Bible where a guy from Nashville reads select passages every day. He reads from a different version every week, so far, and the sound is nice and clear. I listen and rewind and listen and when I want to read it myself I pick up my trusty Bible and read along. It's great because I can pause it when the phone rings or when I need to step away. I've even subscribed on iTunes and if I miss a day I just download it and listen to two days back to back. I've even listened to a couple of days more than once. I highly recommend it!

i was looking for a bit of something on your blog- trying to keep updated a bit... :) the topic of reading through the Bible came up recently for me too. Amazing how after reading this book for every year since i knew how to read i have yet to read it all at once. still wondering about the need for that...but add to that my habit of systematically reading one book at a time, chapter by chapter, and God meets me, on His schedule, at my need. Amazing how that happens when listening to a Sovereign God who knows good and bad together, before and after- and is quick to forgive when asked- and forgets just as surely as He knew in the first place. Hope the reading and listening finds you in awe of His foreknowledge, sovereign love and irrepressible mercy.
