the year of the slipper
Christmas 2005 is now officially the "year of the slipper". Our whole family got slippers from my parents and we gave slippers to my sister... who also receive a pair from my parents. Luckily we got her slip on slippers that need to be worn indoors while the slippers my folks got her can be worn anywhere. I also got a pair of slipper socks from my friend Ivy. I call them my sleeping slippers and wear them in bed.
Rianne got the moccasin type, fringe and all, and has even danced a little dance for us just so we could see the fringes bounce around. Marshall also has moccasin style slippers, but no fringe - more manly. Dan and I got slippers from Cabellas that are just the best dark chocolate color. I'm currently wearing mine with no socks on, that's how warm they are!
I actually requested the slippers for my family. We're living in a house heated with fuel oil so you can imagine how low our thermostat is set, now subtract another 5-10 degrees for days when no one is home but me. I should have asked for sweaters too :)
I loved the fact that Christmas was on a Sunday this year. I think it should always be on Sunday. Taking the time out to go to church before opening the presents at the beginning of the day was perfect. It refocused the day on Jesus and his birth.
And the Shofar Blew
I know I'm not a hugely publicly spiritual person, it's mostly because I feel the need to shelter my ego from public ridicule. That sounds really lame, but I have to admit it's the truth. I don't like to get into a discussion or argument unless I know why I think something and how to back it up. It's the backing it up part that mostly stops me.
In the interest of exposing my ego I'll give you an example. On the topic of baptism, a friend and I have gotten into at least two conversations. I believe that once you're saved you, at some point - sooner rather than later, should get baptized. It symbolizes the cleansing (remission) of sins, and the union of the believer with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection so that he (the believer) becomes part of the Body.
I also don't believe that you can get properly baptized as an infant, you can be dedicated to God by your parents, but this is not the believers baptism. So on the occasions that I've had the opportunity to discuss this with my friend we've gone in circles. I've said what I believed and my friend has said what my friend believed and I have frustrated myself by not knowing the Bible verse to back up my convictions. Even now I want to delete this conversation with you because I don't have the proof that I'm right enough to say someone else is wrong. So, I sit and listen to my friend dilute the truth down to something that is familiar and comfortable to my friend.
I started this post with the intent of recommending people read the book "
And the Shofar Blew" by Francine Rivers. I just finished it and it was great. I feel convicted to more diligently pursue the truth in God's Word. To have the ability to defend my faith more aptly and to be more steadfast in my faith and the truth of the Word of God.
10 Awesome, Hot Lovin' Years of Joy!
My Hunny Bunny and I will be celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary this next January and we want to invite you all to come to our house to celebrate. We're very excited to have made it this far and, Lord willing, will have many more wonderful years together.
So mark your calenders - Friday January 6th, 6pm till ya cants stands no more. Pray for nice weather as I don't think I could live down another winter storm, I'm not quite done with the last one! Wish Aunt Steph could come and read her poem - well come one come all. Just call for directions.
Love,
h
